Do you want precision laser welding automation that stands out? Discover the PhotonWeld R8-X advantage!

Crash-proof Laser welding Robot/cobot unit for retrofit - Synergy of Beam and Motion

Collaborative robots, cobots, have come to the market with force since they offer lightweight design, flexibility, and intelligence with a reasonable investment. Workers can quickly teach cobots specific welding applications and have them working on actual welding while operators can concentrate on different activities.

Lasermach offers an easy and fast-to-set-up cobot welding solution consisting of a laser welding machine (incl. power source, wire feeder, welding torch) as a base, a compact direct Digital Connection Module (DCM) Cobot interface, Master-Pro torch holder, and a mobile app. The flexible DCM module connects the PhotonWeld Master-Pro-X laser welding machine with the cobot (any cobot). For the laser welding machine, Lasermach has a wide range of cobot/robot -ready alternatives.

Synergy of Beam and Motion

A superior laser weld is the product of two elements: a stable, high-quality energy beam and exceptionally precise motion control. Our R8-X series excels in both.

Our systems are powered by the worlds best high-performance fiber lasers, chosen for their reliability and superior beam quality. But the true differentiator is our motion platform. Each R8-X robot/cobot is driven by our proprietary, in-house developed laser system. This gives us complete control over the machine's welding performance, allowing for optimized trajectory accuracy, minimal vibration, and exceptional dynamic response. The result is a repeatable positioning accuracy of ±0.05mm, ensuring that the laser's pinpoint focus lands exactly where it's needed, weld after weld.

Significant productivity and quality gains in welding

Lasermach provides full predefined units to replace any conventional welding system on any robot, or cobot, or automated machine.

Laser welding is an unknown or unexplored option for many manufacturers with automated welding applications, but it is just as easy to implement as other robotic welding systems. The fast travel speeds and low heat input of laser welding make it especially well-suited for sheet metal welding applications that require precision and attention to aesthetics.

The PhotonWeld R8-X laser welding head is designed for high-precision welding applications, including laser welding, laser brazing, and laser cladding (with optional equipment). It features a compact and lightweight design, which makes it ideal for use in tight spaces and hard-to-reach areas.

The welding head is equipped with a range of advanced features that ensure high-quality and consistent welds. These include a high-precision fiber optic laser, which provides accurate and reliable beam delivery, and a gas flow control system that provides optimal shielding gas coverage.

The PhotonWeld R8-X laser welding head also features a 360-degree rotation capability (by robot/cobot), which enables the welding torch to move freely in all directions, and a 90-degree tilt function, which allows for easy access to difficult-to-reach welding positions.

In addition to its advanced features, the PhotonWeld R8-X laser welding head is also easy to use and maintain. It can be easily programmed and controlled using a central console, and its modular design allows for quick and easy replacement of components.

For operations now using MIG, TIG, or resistance spot welding, a switch to laser welding can significantly improve productivity, saving time and money while still producing even better high-quality welds.  Implementing our PhotonWeld-R units in your existing robot welding line is a piece of cake.

The PhotonWeld R8-X-Series comes with a full laser unit of standard 1500 Watt air-cooled (with heat pump) with maximum welding capacity of 6mm in stainless steel, working on 220V Mono. We have two versions: 3kW version and 6 kW version. The unit is plug-and-play and runs problem-free from the first second.

In today's demanding manufacturing environment, laser welding is no longer just an alternative—it's the standard for quality, speed, and consistency. Moving beyond conventional methods requires more than just a laser source; it demands a fully integrated, intelligent, and reliable automation system. This is where our R8-X delivers a definitive advantage and High precision results.

R8-X: Robotic Laser Welding Torch with collision avoidance and push-pull wire feeding capabilities.

We install a highly sensitive collision avoidance sensor within the laser welding torch.

This sensor instantly detects any collision and brings the entire system to an emergency stop, effectively providing a "safety airbag" for the valuable welding torch, providing maximum protection for both the torch and the system.

8 Reasons why our R8X Robotic Laser Welding Torch Outruns the Market

1. Anti-Crash Advantage: R8X Robotic/Cobotic Laser Welding Torch’s integrated sensor shields the torch from collision damage, eliminating production stops and repair bills.

2. Pre-Connection Verified: Every R8X Robotic/Cobotic Laser Welding Torch ships with a unique full-system test report that proves 100 % function before you even power up.

3. Stable-Mount Advantage: Designed to operate flawlessly on any flat, <10 Hz vibration-free surface, the R8X Robotic Laser Welding Torch needs no special foundation.

4. Wide-Environment Advantage: R8X Robotic Laser Welding Torch runs from -10-60 °C and up to 80 % RH without extra climate control.

5. Water-Cooling Advantage: A continuous water loop keeps our R8-X Robotic Laser Welding Torch at optimal temperature for non-stop shifts.

6. Push-Pull Feeding Advantage: our R8-X Robotic Laser Welding Torch uses a dual-motor system (main pusher + torch puller) to deliver kink-free, high-speed wire delivery, even with small diameters

7. Soft-Wire Mastery: Engineered for aluminum and copper, our R8-X Robotic Laser Welding Torch prevents jams caused by bending, vibration or high friction.

8. Seam-Quality Advantage: Constant, smooth wire flow from our R8-X Robotic Laser Welding Torch lays the foundation for repeatable, defect-free laser welds.

A BETTER START, A BETTER WELD

When it comes to laser welding parts robotically, laser starts and consistent wire feeding are crucial. Our AutoDrive-RX is a high-performance servo torch solution engineered to address the common problems with robotic laser welding all to make the welding process easier and hassle-free. The system integrates with a robot and communicates directly with a the PhotonWeld Master-Pro-X laser welding machine resulting in a best-in-class robot laser solution.

SIMPLICITY AND EFFICIENCY

A Clean Start

AutoDrive-RX uses touch-retract start technology to initiate each laser robotic weld with no spatter or burnback. This ensures a consistent weld start from start to finish.

Laser Welding Focus Position: Always the correct zero focus center height in few second

Check at any time where is your focus center! How to Adjust and Find Focus Height in a few seconds?

What Is Laser Welding Focal Distance?

The focal distance refers to the vertical distance between the laser’s focus point—where the beam converges into the smallest spot—and the surface of the material being welded. When the material surface aligns precisely with this focal point, the laser energy density reaches its maximum, resulting in optimal weld quality.  Focus Position refers to the distance between the laser’s focal point and the material’s surface. Proper focus is essential for ensuring that the laser energy is applied effectively to the material.

Why Is Accurate Focus Adjustment So Important?

Laser welding relies on the principle of concentrated energy at a single point. If the laser beam is not correctly focused on the material surface, energy is dispersed ineffectively, which can lead to:

  • Weak or incomplete welds

  • Excessive spatter and material deformation

  • Burn-through or surface discoloration

  • Decreased welding speed and accuracy

Proper focus maximizes energy delivery to the weld zone, which is particularly important in high-speed welding applications using optical fiber laser welders, portable laser welder or automated laser equipment.

How the focus position Affects Welding:

  • The focus position affects the energy density at the weld spot.

  • If the focus is too high or too low relative to the material's surface, it can result in weak welds or excessive spatter.

  • A properly adjusted focus position ensures that the laser energy is concentrated at the correct depth within the material, leading to strong and precise welds.
