Joining of components with high precision and small heataffected zone has recently made laser welding more prevalent in industry.
Especially, with large depth-to-width aspect ratio and high welding efficiency, keyhole mode laser welding is more promising when compared with conventional welding processes. However, in deep penetration laser welds, porosity is frequently observed. Porosity deteriorates the strength of the welded part.
In order to optimize the laser welding process and to ensure high weld quality and strength, it is necessary to understand how porosity is formed in the laser welding process. That's what we do at Lasermach and subsequently we found an effective method to reduce or eliminate porosity defects.
